The Mystery of JomonQ&AQ: What is the mystery?A:The Jomon culture is widely considered as a hunter-gatherer culture, but it is becoming increasingly clear that this is a faulty theory. We now find that the Jomon man was tied to land, managed agriculture and forestry, and lived in affluence. Also, there is a great possibility that people in this period had been managing rice cultivation as far as ten thousand years ago. The Jomon culture is known for making earthware for the first time in the world, and is about seven thousand years older than other civilizations. Why was earthware made in this time and culture alone? Is it just that excavations have not yet revealed similar occurrences at other places in the world? Or is there a secret behind it?
Q: What do I think? |
