Chapter 3 An almighty solvent
The water molecules consist of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, expressed chemically as H2O. But no one had seen the genuine water.
Why? It is because water is an excellent solvent, easily dissolving various substances. In other words, water do not exist as the genuine H2O by itself. What we call water is a solvent of various substances. This is why water has tastes. If water can exist by itself, both Evian and Volvic would taste the same, and best waters of some locality will not come into being.
Water in nature is a solution with so many various substances being dissolved into it that we can hardly call it in simple term such as water. But artificially, water with much purity will be made possible. Such are the Aqua pura and Ultra pure water. These waters do not exist in nature. It can only be created artificially.
Generally speaking, wetting electric appliances is prohibited. It is because water do conduct electricity thus causing them to short-circuit. But again, what conducts electricity is not the water itself but the water that became electrolyzed after dissolving various substances.
Ultra pure waters do not conduct electricity but dissolve everything. Such property is used to advantage when it is utilized as the cleanser for the semi-conductors. The tools that manufacture ultra pure water measure the electric resistance as the barometer of its purity. Needless to say, the higher the electric resistance is, the purer the water is. But no matter how many times we filter it, perfectly pure water could not be manufactured. Why? Because of its almighty solvency, the water starts dissolving anything surrounding it once the water is manufactured.
It is said that one cup of ultra pure water may kill a man. Since water that is too pure can dissolve anything, people believe it will melt our gastral membranes and stomach walls. But apart from all this, ultra pure water tastes horrible! I drank only a mouthful, but it was the very thing I would call tasteless and odorless.
